At the beginning of the 2011–2012 season, Municipal Stadium will become the host arena of Śląsk Wrocław.
Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, as an Wrocław team tournament arena, will appoint a new quality of experiencing sport events. A special arrangement will provide an excellent view of the stands onto the pitch, not only during matches of WKS Slask Wroclaw, but also during all events organized at the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw.
WKS Śląsk club was founded in Wrocław in 1947; its origins are associated with two military schools’ clubs. Soon the club was promoted from A- and B-Class, followed by its advancement to the Second Division in 1952. In 1956, the club name was changed to WKS “Śląsk Wrocław,” which remains to this day. Its golden age is associated with the name of Władysław Żmuda, a former player who took over the team in 1971 and led it straight up to the First Division. In the 1974–1975 season, WKS Śląsk Wrocław team finished in the third place, which enabled them to compete in the European Cup championships.
Experience gained in matches against European teams proved to be vital for the final stage of the 1976–1977 season in Poland, when “Śląsk” won the Polish Championship for the first time in its history. The early ‘90s turned the team into the league’s second rated competitor until the fatal 1992–93 season when it was relegated to the Second and Third Division. After six years of fleeting ups and painful downs, “Śląsk” has returned to the party of front runners in Polish soccer. In 2009, the team managed to confirm their solid standing as they reached for the First Division’s Cup and finished sixth in the league’s overall ranking.
